ACHANGE Arkansas Coalition of Housing & Neighborhood Growth For Development
Transforming Communities One Home at a Time

About Us

ACHANGE is dedicated to promoting quality, affordable, housing and community economic development throughout Arkansas.

ACHANGE supports, informs, and encourages local and state-wide efforts to improve housing for Arkansas's low-income and moderate-income families.

As the collective voice for affordable housing advocates state-wide, ACHANGE's objectives are to:

  • Represent a collective voice in support of public policy and programs for quality, affordable housing.
  • Develop and conduct education and training programs to strengthen ACHANGE organizations and positions.
  • Study best practices in affordable housing and inform ACHANGE members of implementation options.
  • Deliver standards and certification for housing counseling and education.
  • Develop and publicize an affordable housing agenda.
  • Create a system for project-based and operational funding for ACHANGE.
  • Support a holistic process for addressing housing issues.

In November, 2004, seven community development corporations from across Arkansas met to discuss their needs and concerns as developers of affordable housing, providers of homebuyer and financial literacy education, and managers of nonprofit businesses. Four months later, a “working collaborative” called The Arkansas Coalition of Housing and Neighborhood Growth for Empowerment (ACHANGE) was formed to address the current housing conditions in Arkansas.

ACHANGE emerged with the mission of serving as a collective voice of Arkansas community based organizations in the following distinct areas:

           Education and Training

           Public Policy Development

           Community Preservation and Growth

What began as an informal collaborative became a formal organization. The organization sought, and obtained, 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Strategic planning allowed the group to agree on a mission, goals and objectives for the organization. Working committees were established to carry out the work of the organization.

With the assistance of partners and associate members like NeighborWorks America ®, Bank of the Ozarks, Arvest Bank, Regions Bank, Arvest Mortgage, Southern Development Bancorp, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, MidSouth Delta LISC, Enterprise Corporation of the Delta and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Little Rock Branch, ACHANGE has been able to provide these services and programs:

           Annual Community Development training conferences

           Annual Community Service Awards

           Annual Public Policy Symposiums

           Regional training workshops

           Membership networking events

ACHANGE continues to grow and evolve as the needs of the members change. We are committed to “making ACHANGE in Arkansas”.
